Dr. Luca Pensabene has several areas of specialty in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine including Sepsis, multi organ failure and traumas of various degrees.


Dr. Luca received his medical degree in 1991 and a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine, Surgery and Surgical Intensive Care in 1996 from Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy). He completed his medical training and residency at Ospedale Maggiore and Ospedale Niguarda in Milano (Italy). He was later awarded a Master in Management of Healthcare Systems in 2000 from Università degli Studi di Bologna (Italy), a Master in Tropical Medicine, Surgery and Humanitarian Emergencies in 2011 from Università di Verona (Italy) and a Master in Intensive Care in 2012 from Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy).


Dr. Luca has over 25 years of clinical experience. Before joining United Family Healthcare Shanghai Service Area, Dr. Luca served in several busy high specialty hospitals in Italy, Saudi Arabia and in the UK. He was in Policlinico San Donato (Milano) and Hesperia Hospital (Modena) as a specialist in Intensive care.  He then progressed to a leading consultant grade in Villa Torri Hospital (Bologna) and Hesperia Hospital (Bari). He also worked as a consultant in cardiac intensive care at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and as associate specialist in Emergency Medicine in various hospitals in northern Italy and United Kingdom.

Dr Luca is board certified in Italy (Ordine dei Medici) and in the UK (General Medical Council). He is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Resuscitation Council in the UK. Dr Luca is an ALS (Advanced Life Support), EPLS (European Paediatric Life Support), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and ETC (European Trauma) certified provider.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Luca is an ALS instructor and worked on several research and quality improvement projects in the area of intensive care medicine and sepsis.
